Udha: An Essential Early Warning App for the Maldives
Udha is a nationwide safety and early-warning mobile
application designed to keep communities across the Maldives informed,
prepared, and protected. The app delivers real-time alerts for local
hazards—such as storm surges, heatwaves, floods, and dangerous sea
conditions—with clear colour-coding and multilingual support in Dhivehi,
Bengali, and English. To ensure accessibility for all, alerts are also
available as voice messages, and users can acknowledge warnings so authorities
know they have been received.
Beyond alerts, Udha provides live environmental data,
including air quality, tide levels, and flood indicators sourced from smart
sensors. Its Community Incident Reporting feature enables citizens,
volunteers, and authorised officers to submit detailed reports with photos,
videos, locations, and timestamps, helping authorities verify and respond to
unfolding events more effectively.
The app also includes a dedicated Advice & Guidance
section offering practical, easy-to-follow safety instructions for different
hazard scenarios, empowering people to take preventative action and respond
appropriately during emergencies.
Bringing together early warnings, real-time data, community
reporting, and actionable guidance, Udha strengthens public awareness, supports
faster incident management, and enhances resilience across the Maldives.
