The Maldives Ocean Hackathon

The Maldives Ocean Hackathon was a 48-hour intensive event that united local and international teams to foster collaboration, competition, and knowledge sharing. This initiative served as a platform for technology enthusiasts to develop solutions addressing critical ocean health challenges in the Maldives.
By hosting this hackathon, the Maldives strengthened its position as a hub for innovation and sustainability. The event offered substantial cash prizes and in-kind rewards to winners, along with opportunities to refine business ideas focused on environmental impact and long-term viability.
The hackathon was conducted as an in-person event, requiring all selected teams to be physically present at the venue. Participation was open to both local and international teams, with eligible participants aged between 18 and 55 years. Each team consisted of three to five members, as individual participation was not permitted. Registration was completed through the official Maldives Ocean Hackathon website, where teams submitted their ideas for evaluation by a panel from the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Technology. Only shortlisted teams were invited to compete.  In total, ten teams comprising fifty individuals were chosen to take part in this landmark event.
