Overview

The Maldives Ocean Hackathon 2023 was a flagship innovation initiative under the D’MADD Project, designed to harness digital technology and data‑driven innovation to address ocean health, climate resilience, and environmental sustainability challenges in the Maldives.
Implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology with funding from the World Bank, the event convened technologists, environmental experts, and innovators in a 48‑hour in‑person hackathon, fostering cross‑sector collaboration and rapid solution development tailored to national priorities. 
Through structured mentorship and competitive prototyping, participating teams developed practical digital solutions supporting marine ecosystem protection, climate risk understanding, and improved use of environmental and climate data for decision‑making, strengthening the Maldives’ innovation ecosystem and climate adaptation agenda.
