Environmental Protection Agency

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is a regulatory entity, affiliated to the Ministry of Environment. The EPA was formed when Environmental Research Centre and Maldives Water & Sanitation Authority was merged by the president's decree on December 18, 2008.
EPA is responsible for regulatory activities for protection, conservation and management of environment and biodiversity, as well as waste management and pollution prevention under the Environment Protection and Preservation Act (4/93). EPA also regulates Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage services under the Public Services Act (4/96).

National Disaster Management Authority

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of the Maldives is tasked with preparing for, responding to, and mitigating disasters. Its mandate includes organizing public awareness programs, coordinating legal and administrative systems for disaster response, and providing immediate relief and temporary shelter. NDMA also ensures basic necessities for displaced individuals, collaborates with government and non-government entities for disaster risk reduction, and conducts research on disaster impacts. Additionally, it enhances early warning systems, integrates disaster management into education, and facilitates training for government employees. NDMA maintains a disaster information database and continuously conducts awareness programs across the Maldives.

Maldives Marine Research Institute

The researching and collecting scientific data and specimens in regards to sea life and the marine environment. The mandate also includes protecting marine species in threat of extinction, ensuring fishing mechanisms which protect the marine environment and establishing ecosystem-based management in the Maldives. Moreover, the Maldives Marine Research Institute is mandated with research work and providing expert opinion on developing aquaculture profession in the Maldives. It also includes providing information and partaking in scientific international associations.
