We have conducted a key stakeholder
consultation workshop to chart the way forward for a National Data Platform
(CDP). The workshop brought together representatives from government agencies,
including the Environmental Regulatory Authority (ERA), Ministry of Tourism and
Environment, National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), and others.
Participants discussed the urgent need for unified climate data management,
highlighting challenges such as fragmented data systems, lack of
standardization, and limited technical capacity.
Presentations by experts from D4DInsights
outlined a roadmap for the CDP, emphasizing international best practices,
phased implementation, and the adoption of FAIR Data Principles. Breakout
sessions focused on drafting a national data sharing policy, addressing legal
and confidentiality concerns, and identifying capacity development needs.
Key outcomes included plans to finalize a
National Data Sharing Policy, establish a cross-agency Steering Committee, and
launch a capacity development program. The initiative aims to ensure
interoperability, data security, and sustainable governance, supporting
evidence-based decision-making for climate resilience and sustainable
development in the Maldives.
The workshop marks a significant step toward
modernizing the country’s national data ecosystem and fostering greater
collaboration among agencies for a resilient future.
