The World Bank
mission conducted a site visit to Addu City Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo on 20th
September. The D’MADD project is working to implement a pilot project on
mapping the Addu City reef system using fluid lensing technology. The
leadership of the Nalafehi Meedhoo NGO warmly welcomed the mission and
facilitated site visits within Meedhoo. The team visited a farming facility and
a greenhouse operated by a group of youth on the island, the eroding areas, and
the island's significant ecological sites.
The team also
participated in a tree-planting ceremony organized by the Nalafehi Meedhoo NGO.
All the team members planted trees to participate in the Planting of 5 million
Trees pledged by the President, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
During the
mission, the team also received a tour of Addu Nature Park in Hithadhoo, which
was facilitated by the Addu City Council, and visited the Southernmost Point of
the Maldives.
The World Bank Team was led by Mr. Jerome Bezzina (Task Team Leader, Sr.
Digital Development Specialist), and included Ms. Anna Metz (co-Task Team
Leader, Sr. Digital Development Specialist), Ms. Kristine Schwebach (Sr. Social
Development Specialist) along with Dr. Ibrahim Waheed
(Project Manager), Mr. Ahmed Haleem (Communications Specialist), Ms. Shama
Ahmed Rasheed (Procurement Specialist) and Ms. Ahlam Abdul Sattar (Finance
Management Specialist) from the D’MADD Project Management Unit.
