Key official from University of Salford visits Maldives to discuss the Multi-Hazard Early Warning System pilot to be implemented in Fuvahmulah City

The Digital Maldives for Adaptation, Decentralization, and Diversification project introduced Prof. Terrence Fernando from the University of Salford to key stakeholders and beneficiaries of the Multi-Hazard Early Warning System pilot to be implemented in Fuvahmulah City.
Professor Terrence showcased the significant work undertaken by the University in the realm of early warning systems. The presentation detailed various projects and research initiatives aimed at enhancing the effectiveness and reliability of these systems.
During the session, Professor Terrence also engaged with representatives from the stakeholder agencies. He sought their feedback on the Maldives' current efforts for early warning systems. The stakeholders provided valuable insights, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and continuous innovation in establishing robust early warning systems.
The discussion underscored the critical role of early warning systems in mitigating the impact of natural disasters and other emergencies. By integrating advanced technologies and fostering partnerships, we can develop more resilient and responsive systems.
Mr. Ahmed Shabin (Meteorologist) and Ms. Aishath Rasheeda (Meteorologist) joined the meeting to represent the Maldives Meteorological Service. Officials from the National Disaster Management Authority included Mr. Kashif Naseer (Director, Policy), Ms. Aishath Azleena (Policy Manager) and Ms. Aishath Ilma (Manager, Program Research and Advocacy). Mr. Afnan Ahmed Shafeeq (Research Officer), Mr. Ahmed Raidh (Senior Costal Analyst) and Mohamed Azan (Environmental Analyst) from the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, Maldives, joined the meeting.
Dr Ibrahim Waheed (Project Manager), Ms Shama Ahmed Rasheed (Procurement Specialist), Mr Ahlam Abdul Sattar (Finance Management Specialist), Ms Shafa Hussain (Project Officer), and Ahmed Haleem (Communications Specialist) from the D’MADD PMU were also present at the meeting.
Professor Terrence concluded his trip to Maldives with a site visit to the office of Maldives Meteorological Service, located at Velana International Airport.
