Maldives Digital Summit 2026 Commences in Barcelo Nasandhura, Malé

The Maldives Digital Summit 2026 officially commenced on 27 April 2026 at Barceló Nasandhura Malé, bringing together government leaders, international experts, development partners, and technology practitioners to advance the nation’s digital transformation agenda under the Maldives 2.0 vision.
Jointly convened by the Maldives Digital Service (MDS) and the World Bank, the summit is being held under the theme “Delivering a Resilient, Digital-First Nation.” The event serves as a platform to exchange international experiences, practical lessons, and collaborative ideas aimed at accelerating the Maldives’ transition toward a more connected, efficient, and citizen-centred digital government.
The opening session featured remarks by the Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology, Honourable Ali Ihusan, who highlighted the Maldives 2.0 vision and the government’s commitment to modernising public services, strengthening institutions, and improving citizen experiences through innovation and technology.
A video presentation showcasing the progress of the Digital Maldives for Adaptation, Decentralization and Diversification (D’MADD) Project was also presented, highlighting milestones achieved in support of the country’s ongoing digital transformation journey.
The summit also featured opening remarks from Vyjayanti Desai, who reaffirmed the World Bank’s continued partnership and support for the Maldives’ digital development efforts.
Throughout the day, participants engaged in a series of country spotlight sessions and panel discussions featuring international speakers and experts from South Korea, Moldova, and the United Kingdom along with local technology professionals. Discussions focused on global lessons in digital government, data sharing and governance, citizen-centric service delivery, cybersecurity, and the use of emerging technologies and artificial intelligence in public service transformation especially in the context of Maldives.
The program also explored key priorities under Maldives 2.0, including enabling secure government-wide data sharing, strengthening digital infrastructure, enhancing service design, and building inclusive digital services that work for all citizens.
The Maldives Digital Summit 2026 will continue with technical workshops on 28 and 29 April 2026, focusing on practical implementation, collaboration, and capacity building to support the country’s long-term digital transformation goals.
