Ahmed Basheer is a marine conservation practitioner currently working as a Field Officer on a coral restoration project implemented by the Environmental Protection Agency (ERA) of the Maldives. In this role, he oversees and conducts in-water fieldwork, coral restoration activities, and monitoring surveys, supporting the planning and implementation of science-based reef rehabilitation efforts. He has extensive experience in coral reef monitoring, ship-grounding impact assessments, environmental monitoring, and community- and stakeholder-based conservation initiatives across the Maldives. His background includes work with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Maldives, USAID-supported climate adaptation projects, and international conservation programmes, with a strong focus on applied field science and practical reef management.
Since she joined the Maldives Marine Research Institute, she has been interested in learning more about the ocean and was fascinated by how much there is still left undiscovered. Getting to participate in the PAM training was one of the key experiences from her time working here. Although she hadn't studied Marine Science, she was keen on understanding the world under the sea, and this workshop was a doorway that initiated this wish.
