A public awareness workshop on digital identity and the safe use of the national digital identity platform, eFaas, was conducted in Kulhudhuffushi City on 19 August 2026 as part of ongoing outreach activities under the Digital Maldives for Adaptation, Decentralization and Diversification (D'MADD) Project. The workshop was organized in collaboration with Maldives Digital Services (MDS).

The workshop brought together 50 participants representing local councils, public institutions, schools, the health sector, and civil society organizations across Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Participating organizations included Kulhudhuffushi City Council, Kulhudhuffushi Women's Development Committee, Finey Island Council, Nolhivaranfaru Island Council, Nellaidhoo Island Council, Kurin'bee Island Council, Hanimaadhoo Island Council, Naaivaidhoo Island Council, Kumundhoo Island Council, Neykurendhoo Island Council, Vaikaradhoo Island Council, Makunudhoo Island Council, Nolhivaram Island Council, HDh Family and Children Service Centre, H.Dh Atoll Education Centre, Jalaaluddin School, Afeefuddin School, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, HDh Magistrate Court, and the Maldives Red Crescent Northern Unit. The diverse participation highlighted the growing importance of digital identity awareness across communities and service sectors.

The session focused on the importance of digital identity, responsible use of eFaas, and measures individuals can take to protect their personal information in an increasingly digital environment. Participants also discussed common challenges faced when using digital services and explored ways community institutions can support citizens in accessing and benefiting from digital government services.

Opening the workshop, the Deputy Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City welcomed the initiative and expressed appreciation for D'MADD's efforts to bring digital identity awareness directly to communities. The Deputy Mayor noted the importance of strengthening public understanding of digital services and ensuring that citizens are equipped to participate safely and confidently in the country's digital transformation journey.

Following the workshop, an outdoor public awareness event was held at Galadhun Park in collaboration with the Kulhudhuffushi City Council, and the Kulhudhuffushi Women's Development Committee (WDC). The event created an opportunity for broader community engagement, allowing residents to learn more about eFaas, digital identity, and online safety in an informal setting. During the event, project representatives interacted with more than 130 members of the public, answering questions and providing information on digital identity and related services.

To encourage participation and engagement, the Kulhudhuffushi Women's Development Committee organized a lucky draw, with 14 participants receiving prizes. The activity helped attract community interest while reinforcing key messages about digital identity awareness and safe digital practices.

The workshop and outreach event form part of D'MADD's broader efforts to promote digital inclusion and strengthen public awareness of digital identity across the Maldives, ensuring that people are better informed about the benefits, responsibilities, and safeguards associated with participating in the digital ecosystem.
