D’MADD, with the expert
consultants from the Telecommunications Management Group (TMG), conducted a workshop
to validate the first draft of the Maldives Digital Identity Bill. The event
took place at Barcelo Nasandhura on 18th June from 9 AM to 4 PM. The
bill was drafted after the first consultation meetings and the workshop held
last May, followed by a series of clarification meetings held recently just
before the workshop.
The TMG team consisted of Mr.
Daniel Leza (Legal Expert / Team Leader), Mr. Evan Clarke (Digital ID
Specialist) and Uz. Hassan Maaz Shareef (Local Legal Expert) conducted the
workshop, while Project Manager Dr. Ibrahim Waheed moderated the workshop.
The team again justified the
clauses according to international best practices and answered questions from
the participants. Most participants’ concern again revolved around the governance,
accountability and responsibility mechanisms presented in the draft.
