Project Manager Dr. Ibrahim Waheed met with the
Chief Executive Officer of the Local Government Authority, Mr. Mohamed Nimal. Local
Government Authority (LGA) is a state institution established under the
Decentralization Act to regulate, oversee and develop the local governance
system of Maldives as envisioned in the Constitution. The Decentralization Act
confers the following mandate on LGA.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the
D’MADD project to the LGA, as the project has important components supporting
the LGA. The meeting comes after the signing of the contract to assist in
expanding the National Computer Network operated by NCIT. The Network was
envisioned by LGA under the name “e-Council Network”. It has played a crucial
role in decentralizing government service to the atoll and island councils.
Dr. Waheed briefed the CEO and the team on the project's
current development, including the Multi-Hazard Early Warning system to be
established in Fuvahmulah City and the 3D reef mapping pilot to be conducted in
Addu City.
The LGA team presented their development
roadmap, showcasing their journey in implementing ICT-based systems. These
initiatives by LGA support local councils' management and operational
efficiency, ensuring better service delivery and governance.
The meeting concluded with the LGA’s
commitment to support the D'MADD project. This collaboration aims to achieve
mutual interests and enhance the decentralization activities across the
country.
Mr. Ahmed Haleem, Communications
Specialist, and Ms. Fathimath Shafa Hussian, Project Officer of the D’MADD
project, participated with Dr. Waheed. Mr. Adam Shareef (Director General) and
Hassan Ismail (Senior Systems Analyst) joined from LGA.
