The D’MADD project
has unveiled its official website today. It is designed to provide stakeholders
and the public with the most updated information about the project. The website
aims to showcase the project components and implementation transparently, offer
news and reports, and archive all project-related materials.
The website was
inaugurated during an information session held at the National Centre for
Information Technology to re-establish the project under the Ministry of
Homeland Security and Technology. Minister of State for Homeland Security and
Technology, Dr Mohamed Kinaanath, and Dr Ibrahim Waheed, the Project Manager
for the D’MADD project, conducted the session. The session featured remarks
from Dr. Mohamed Kinaanath, Minister of State for Homeland Security and
Technology, and Dr Ibrahim Waheed, the Project Manager for D’MADD.
During the event, Dr
Ibrahim Waheed detailed the components of the project and how the project will
assist the stakeholders NCIT, CAM and DNR in terms of building technical
capacity. These include providing support to strengthen the institutional
capacity of NCIT. The project will also
facilitate NCIT in enhancing the eFaas system. The project will support the
development of a regulatory framework, provide quality assurance equipment to
the CAM, and assist DNR in modernizing the National Civil Registration System.
Dr. Waheed
highlighted component 3, which supports the Ministry of Climate Change,
Environment and Energy. He briefed on the proposed climate data platform and
the four pilots envisaged under the project. These projects are:
- The Maldives Ocean Hackathon that was completed in 2023
- The Passivie Acoustic Monitoring pilot that will aid the Environmental Protection Agency in the restoration efforts of the Rasfari Reef,
- The 3D areal mapping of the Addu Atoll reef system using Fluid Lensing Technology
- The Multi-Hazard Early Warning system to be piloted in Fuvahmulah City
Dr. Waheed also
presented the finance distribution among the components and stakeholders. When
asked when the public can expect the project's results, he explained the
lengthy procurement process under the World Bank regulations and highlighted
that the results can be expected by 2026.
Responding to one
of the reporters’ questions on eFaas, State Minister Dr Kinaanath highlighted
that the project is assisting in bringing enhanced features to the eFaas
platform. Additionally, he highlighted the D’MADD project's technical
assistance in bringing life to new technology-related bills envisioned by the
government, such as the Data Privacy Bill, Digital Identity Bill and the Cyber
Security Bill. He also disclosed plans to hold inter-governmental stakeholder
consultation workshops with World Bank experts in early November. The project
will fund the Digital ID bill, and a linked trust fund will support the
remaining bills.
